On August 30th, a large group from ILV visited the Xa Loi Pagoda, the site that was the center of opposition in August 1963 when 400 monks and nuns were arrested. We also visited the Jade Emperor Pagoda, which was built in 1909 by the Cantonese community in Saigon and has statues depicting dieties from the Buddhist and Taoist religions.
We had a wonderful time on this outing! A big Thank You to Mary for setting up this outing, and to Cindy for getting us all together and giving the group such great background information on Buddhism and Taoism. Photos have been posted in the Photo Gallery. Have a look!
This is a fascinating museum dedicated to the women who were significant in the struggles and history of Vietnam. We met at the museum (202 Vo Thi Sau, D3), and enjoyed a good day learning about the women who have played major roles in Vietnam.
Fifteen ladies attended the workshop, which was given by Brian Caleda, Director of iknow. We learned about online security threats, how to identify them, how to get rid of them, and most importantly, how to prevent them from happening in the first place. It was a really good workshop, and we hope to have Brian return for more workshops in the fall. Thanks for sharing your expertise, Brian!
Here in Ho Chi Minh City, we receive around 90% of our drinking water from two treatment plants on the Dong Nai River and the smaller Sai Gon River. There were eleven of us who got to visit the plants to see how their work is done. It was a super trip, and everyone had a great time. Thanks, Mary, for another awesome outing!
This month’s golf outing was on June 6th at Song Be golf course. Tee off time was 8:00 a.m., and the group of four chose to go with 18 holes.
If you are an experienced golfer and want to join our next golf outing, you can sign up with our golf coordinator, Petra van Walt Meijer-Pen, at the next Coffee Morning.
Over several weeks, ILV members gathered a collection of items to donate to a shelter in Dong Nai that provides care to mentally and physically disabled residents of all ages, from children to the elderly. We had a large outpouring of support for this project. Thank you to all who donated. A special thanks to all of you who volunteered to take the items to the shelter. Your efforts were greatly appreciated!
The D2 Coffee Morning was a great success. It was held at Art Space (3rd Floor, 104A, Xuan Thuy St., D2).
We occasionally hold Coffee Mornings in districts outside D1, for current ILV members and newcomers to Saigon who live in other districts and would like to know more about joining ILV. Watch this page and the ILV Facebook page for information on upcoming events.
A great time was had by all ILV members who attended the Mekong Delta outing! See the Photo Gallery for lots of photos of this fun event
ILV’s own Jee Hee Kim, an internationally recognized concert pianist, performed a beautiful piano recital at the HCMC Conservatory of Music (112 Nguyen Du, D1).
